About Charly Pennicott-Henry - Couples Therapy & Individual Counselling

Hi! I’m Charly.

I am a Humanistic therapist, with over 10 years experience in Psychotherapy.

As a private therapist, I offer clients in-person therapy, at my Birmingham based office, as well as video-therapy, or telephone therapy.

I am passionate about empowering adults to develop good relationships, with themselves and others.  In particular, I have a special heart for mental health and self-development.

How my passion developed
Growing up around those living with poor mental wellbeing, it was
difficult to see loved ones struggle to get the support they needed.  Barriers to support often came in the form of ‘denial’, that their issues either did not exist or that they would go away, ‘lack of  knowledge' as to what support to seek, and perceived stigma, as outside support meant ‘weakness’ and 'shame’.  This often led me to question my community, so to understand their fears of getting support versus harm to their mental health.

By gaining understanding, I decided I wanted to help make

difference, so I followed my passion and gained

qualifications in Clinical Psychology and Psychology with Counselling - Relationship Therapy, came later.  That way I could place myself in the ‘Health and Social Care’ sector to promote myself to support anyone in need, but also be someone that my community could hopefully relate to and hence, seek support from.

How I live out my passion
My supportive roles have included: working with children and young people, vulnerable adults, couples and families, as well as training professionals, within various health and social care and educational settings.
Issues have included: low self-esteem, bereavement, family/relationship breakdown, depression, abuse, and mental illness.

How I help others as a therapist
As a therapist, I support my clients to work through their challenges and trauma, in a safe, non-judgemental, therapeutic, supportive manner.

As well as my own private practice, I also currently work for 'Relate', as a Relational and Systemic Therapist, supporting couples and individuals to safely explore their thoughts, feelings, and behavioural patterns, that may negatively impact their relationship, as well as volunteering with a charitable organisation, as a helpline volunteer, to support adults who live with PTSD, trauma, depression, and anxiety, as an impact of sexual violence and sexual abuse.

I value the trust someone places in me to walk alongside them, on their journey, to explore and gain a clearer/deeper understanding of their world.
And I want you to know that there is no shame in exploring who you are and your journey, through your feelings, thoughts, and behaviours, as the process of discovering and developing more about who we are, is something we should always embrace.
